Your Complete Siesta Key Guide

Everything you need to know about visiting Siesta Key — from world-famous beaches to the best restaurants, bars, and local tips. Updated for 2026.

About Siesta Key

Siesta Key is an 8-mile barrier island off the coast of Sarasota, Florida. It's home to Siesta Beach — consistently ranked the #1 beach in the United States — known for its powdery white quartz sand that stays cool under your feet even in the hottest Florida sun.

The island is divided into three main areas: Siesta Key Village (north end) with shops, restaurants, and nightlife; the mid-Key residential area; and the quieter Turtle Beach area to the south. With a permanent population of about 6,500, the Key swells to tens of thousands during peak tourist season.

Connected to the mainland by two bridges — the north bridge from US-41 and the south Stickney Point Road bridge — Siesta Key is easy to reach but can be tough to navigate during busy season. That's where we come in.

Top Beaches

🏖️ Siesta Beach

The crown jewel. 99% pure quartz crystal sand, free public access, lifeguards on duty, concessions, volleyball courts, playground, and picnic pavilions. Open 8am to sunset daily. Free parking in the main lot — but arrive before 9am in peak season or you'll be circling.

🐢 Turtle Beach

The south end gem. Dog-friendly, great for shelling, and far less crowded than the main beach. Boat ramp access, picnic tables, and a campground nearby. The sand here is coarser (more typical Florida sand) but the vibe is relaxed and local.

🌅 Crescent Beach

Tucked between Siesta Beach and Turtle Beach. Less crowded, perfect for families who want space. Access via Point of Rocks — a rocky outcrop that's one of the best snorkeling spots on the Gulf Coast. No lifeguards, so swim at your own risk.

🌿 Midnight Pass

The southernmost tip of the island. Wild, natural, and undeveloped. No facilities, no lifeguards, no crowds. Just nature. Walk south from Turtle Beach to find it. Popular with kayakers and birdwatchers.

Best Restaurants & Bars

🦪 Siesta Key Oyster Bar (SKOB)

The legendary gathering spot. Live music every night, fresh oysters, craft cocktails, and the best atmosphere on the Key. Expect a wait on weekends — it's worth it. Located in Siesta Key Village.

🐕 The Old Salty Dog

Waterfront casual dining at its finest. Famous for their quarter-pound Salty Dog (deep-fried hot dog), fish & chips, and cold beer with a view. Dog-friendly patio. Cash and card accepted.

🍹 Daiquiri Deck

Frozen daiquiris in every flavor imaginable. Lively rooftop bar, great pub food, and a prime Village location. Perfect for sunset drinks. Their "Pain Killer" is dangerously good.

🏝️ Gilligan's Island Bar & Grill

Tropical vibes, tiki torches, and a massive outdoor area right on the water. Great for groups. Try the grouper sandwich and the Key Lime Colada. Live music on weekends.

🍸 Beach Club

The late-night spot. Live bands, DJs, and dancing right in the heart of the Village. This is where Siesta Key comes alive after dark. Cover charge applies on weekends during peak season.

Shopping in Siesta Key Village

Siesta Key Village is a walkable strip of unique boutiques, surf shops, art galleries, and souvenir stores. Located on Ocean Boulevard near the north bridge, it's the social hub of the island.

What to look for: Local art and photography, handmade jewelry, resort wear, surf gear, and Florida-themed gifts. Several shops carry locally made hot sauces, candles, and crafts you won't find anywhere else.

Most shops are open 10am–9pm daily during peak season. Many close earlier or have limited hours in the off-season (September–November).

How to Get Around in Siesta Key

You don't need a car. In fact, parking is the #1 complaint from visitors during peak season. The beach parking lots fill by 9am, Village parking is limited, and bridge traffic can back up for 30+ minutes.

The smart move? Call Siesta Free Ride at 941-600-8380. We'll pick you up and drop you off anywhere on the Key — beach, Village, restaurants, back to your hotel. Air conditioned, comfortable, and hassle-free.

Bikes and electric scooters are also popular for getting around. Several rental shops in the Village offer hourly and daily rates.

Seasonal Tips
